The weather was near perfect but the river was very low last Saturday when the Lazy Beaver Canoe and Kayak Race was held on the Baraboo River.

Brian Drapes was the fastest paddler, taking two hours, 20 minutes and 30 seconds in kayaking 11.2 miles from La Valle to Reedsburg.

The first week in August is the second to the last in this year’s official library summer events calendar. Be sure to sign up for local author Amy Laundrie’s Discovery Days presentation on Aug. 4 at 2 p.m. and the After Hours Teen Lock-In scheduled for the evening of Aug. 12.

On Saturday, July 23, the Reedsburg High School Class of 1968 dedicated a bench in Clarence Lee's name to honor him for 30 years being a driver’s education teacher and Hall of Fame wrestling coach. He also turned 92 that day. This bench is on Webb Avenue, south of the parking lot by the school entrance.

One of Reedsburg’s contributions to Wisconsin history, economy and recreation is being home to the state’s first Little League organization.

This past weekend, family members of one of the founders met in Reedsburg to enjoy the Annual Lenny Alexander Tournament. A fourth-generation also played during the tourney.

Reedsburg’s next Concert in the Park will feature The Dang-Its.

The show will begin at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 3, at Reedsburg City Park.

The band plays western swing, honky tonk, Americana, Cajun, bluegrass and classic country.

Admission is free but donations are appreciated to support the series.
