Eagles send two wrestlers to state

VERONA – Rock star Meat Loaf had a hit song with ‘Two Out of Three Ain’t Bad’. But it was a bittersweet moment for Sauk Prairie wrestling coach Matt Gaffney when the Eagles advanced two out of their three prized upper weight competitors to state out of the WIAA Division 1 Verona Sectional last Saturday.

Swimmers second at sectionals

What a difference a year has made for the Sauk Prairie/Wisconsin Heights boys swimming program. After competing in Division 1 the past four years, the co-op program dropped Lodi, which moved the team from Division 1 to Division 2 for postseason competition.

Onward, upward

It has been a season of firsts for Austin Rider. The Sauk Prairie senior won the Sauk Prairie Eagle Invitational and recorded a runner-up finish in the Badger Conference tournament. Now, Rider has a regional championship to display, as well.

Heights girls receive No. 9 seed

The road will be tough. But when it comes to the postseason, anything and everything is possible. Wisconsin Heights’ girls basketball team received the No. 9 seed in its WIAA Division 4 sectional. The Vanguards will travel to eighth-seeded Darlington for a regional quarterfinal Feb. 25 at 7 p.m.

Hockey co-op wins two of three

It wasn’t the finish that senior forward Riley Jelinek and the rest of his fellow seniors were after when Sauk Prairie’s co-op hockey team dropped its regular-season finale last Saturday afternoon. But the Eagles still have high hopes for a long postseason run when the WIAA playoffs start this week.

Heights boys sweep a pair

Wisconsin Heights boys basketball coach Zack Colby will head to his postseason meeting this weekend. And Colby should have a decent amount of ammunition. The Vanguards won a pair of games last week and improved to 9-9 overall and 3-4 in the Southern Capitol Conference.

Several Sauk Prairie-Wisconsin Heights boys swimmers are headed to the state meet this Friday. Among them (from top) are: • Matthew Loy, who qualified for state in four events. • Jordan Chao, who will be on two state relay teams. • And Ryan Godwin, who will be part of the 400 freestyle relay.
