Heights boys sweep a pair

Wisconsin Heights boys basketball coach Zack Colby will head to his postseason meeting this weekend. And Colby should have a decent amount of ammunition. The Vanguards won a pair of games last week and improved to 9-9 overall and 3-4 in the Southern Capitol Conference. Heights defeated Pardeeville, 68-66, on Feb. 10. The Vanguards then toppled Cambridge, 55-42, last Friday. It marked the first time Heights compiled a two-game winning streak since the first week of December. “It was nice to finally win two in a row,” Colby said. Heights’ win over Pardeeville (12-6) was an impressive one. Devin Brabender led the Vanguards with 16 points, while De’Shawn Barsness had 14 points and 18 rebounds. Cole Cribbs added 13 points, while Lathan Parman had seven and Jacob Brabender added six.   In all, nine different Vanguards scored on a night when Heights made just three three-point baskets. “It was a good night on (the offensive) side of the ball overall,” Colby said. “Defensively, not our best performance, but thankfully we were able to seal off a tight one at the end.   “I was incredibly proud of the boys in this one as we came from behind late and were able to get a much-needed win on the road against a Pardeeville team that was 11-5 at the time. Good program win for us this time of the year.” Heights also notched an impressive win over Cambridge. Barsness had another huge night with 28 points and 18 rebounds. Devin Brabender added 12 points.   “Defensively we really stepped up,” Colby said. “I thought we did a great job of containing their leading scorer (Jack) Nikolay in the second half. Derek Adler was guarding him and he completely shut him down in the second half holding him to zero points. Remarkable job there.” • On deck: Heights was at Waterloo Tuesday, then hosts Belleville Friday at 7:30 p.m.   Feb. 10 WISCONSIN HEIGHTS 68, PARDEEVILLE 66 Heights …………. 24 44 — 68 Pardeeville ……….. 29 37— 66 WISCONSIN HEIGHTS (fg ft-fta pts) — Buol 0 2-2 2, Jacobus 1 1-2 4, Parman 3 1-2 7, Cribbs 5 2-4 13, Barsness 5 4-9 14, Adler 1 2-2 5, Herrling 0 1-2 1, J.
