Altruism. That's what we need! A whole lot more altruism. Altruism is the capacity to think of others and to sometimes put the needs of others ahead of our own. To sacrifice our own wants in favor of the needs of others. To be generous and to care for others.

Now that the dust has settled following the latest round of the vacuous "No Kings" demonstrations lambasting President Trump, can we look forward to the day when those who participate in them start showing some concern for truly important issues?

Are protests effective? March 28th saw the largest single day protest in the US and the world. We gathered to raise our voices in protest to the ongoing lawlessness and corruption of the current administration. There is an urgent need to reform, strengthen and rebuild a government that works for ALL of us.

In at least one respect, our President is correct in his assertion that he is “no king.”

The south gets tornadoes, we get high water. That seems to be the way it goes here in spring in Wisconsin.

Wisconsin’s Open Records law gives requesters the right to request records from their government. After all, as the law states, “a representative government is dependent upon an informed electorate.”

In a few weeks I'll be out in a swamp at dawn as part of the annual Crane Count. I've done this every year for almost 50 years and I have seen sandhill cranes come back from extremely rare to much more common.  for the first 8 years or so, we never saw a crane.
