Sauk Prairie wrestlers shine

It was all about quality and not quantity when Sauk Prairie hosted its annual Eagle Invitational last Saturday. Sauk Prairie saved its best for last as seniors Marcus Hankins, Simon Patterson and Austin Rider closed out the final three weight classes of the meet on top off the podium as tournament champions.

Sauk Prairie recorded four top-three finishes and placed ninth at the Fondy Cardinal Invite wrestling meet in Fond du Lac last Saturday.

Heights girls split a pair

Wisconsin Heights’ girls basketball team rolled over Poynette, 53-32, last Saturday. The Vanguards also dropped a 67-56 decision to Lodi last Thursday. Heights is now 4-4 overall and has yet to play a conference game.

Sauk Prairie’s year in sports

It was a banner year for Sauk Prairie’s boys’ and girls’ sports teams, which created many highlights and lifetime memories in 2019. The Eagles were competitive in the Badger North Conference with the boys swimming, cross country and soccer teams all winning conference titles.

Break on through

It took a few weeks for Sauk Prairie’s boys basketball team to field a full-squad after some early-season injuries played a role in an 0-4 start. But senior forward Trevor Spray scored a career-best 30 points and grabbed 13 rebounds to lift the host Eagles to a 59-51 victory over Mount Horeb in a Badger North Conference game on Dec. 17.

Eagles’ hockey team rolls

On ‘Rock the Rink’ night, the Sauk Prairie Area Recreation Center Ice Arena was packed and ready for a matchup between two of the leading contenders for the Badger North Conference boys’ hockey title.  Sauk Prairie’s co-op hockey team didn’t waste any time letting the Reedsburg/Wisconsin Dells Cheavers know whose home ice it was.

Eagles’ girls top Baraboo

A furious defensive effort got Sauk Prairie’s girls basketball team off to a great start in a Badger North Conference last Friday night. The Eagles were able to turn numerous Baraboo turnovers into transition points and secure their first conference victory of the season.

Heights girls roll by Riverdale

Bill Sullivan wanted intensity, concentration, passion. His Wisconsin Heights girls basketball team listened. The Vanguards rallied from a 5-point second half deficit and toppled host Riverdale, 55-48, last Tuesday. Heights improved to 3-2 overall.
