Sauk Prairie girls split a pair

It was the best of times and the worst of times for Sauk Prairie’s girls basketball team last week.  Junior guard Naomi Breunig scored a career-best 28 points, and the host Sauk Prairie Eagles used a smothering defense to pound Portage 59-21 in a Badger North Conference game on Feb. 4.

Doubling their fun

Before a full-house on ‘Rock the Gym’ night, Sauk Prairie’s boys basketball team proved its mettle, having to put in a little overtime to get the job done. Junior forward/guard Brandt Wilson finished with a game-high 24 points and grabbed 10 rebounds, and senior swing man Trevor Spray added 12 points and 17 rebounds.

Heights boys hold off Darlington

It wasn’t easy. Far from it. But Wisconsin Heights’ boys basketball team notched a huge road win last Thursday. The Vanguards went to Belleville and escaped with an 80-77 victory. The Vanguards put four players in double figures, led by Everett Buol’s 18. De’Shawn Barsness added 17, Cole Cribbs had 13 and Rhead Jacobus had 11.

Hockey co-op gets some revenge

Senior forward Riley Jelinek and Sauk Prairie’s co-op hockey team were looking for some revenge when Beaver Dam’s co-op team arrived for a Badger North Conference rematch at the Sauk Prairie Area Recreation Center Ice Arena. With the added incentive of a shot at the conference title still within reach, the Eagles delivered in prime time.

Waunakee rolls by Sauk Prairie

Sauk Prairie’s boys basketball team got off to a strong start against Badger North Conference leading Waunakee in a rematch on Jan. 28. But Waunakee used a late first-half flurry to take control and then relied on its superior depth to eventually pull away for a 69-46 victory over Sauk Prairie.

Rough week for Heights girls

It was a tough week for Wisconsin Heights’ girls basketball team. The Vanguards lost at Marshall, 61-49, last Tuesday. New Glarus then came to Heights and defeated the Vanguards, 52-39, last Friday. Heights is now 7-9 overall and 3-3 in the Southern Capitol Conference.

It was business as usual for the Sauk Prairie/Wisconsin Heights boys swimming team last Saturday.  The Eagles won just one event at the Battle on the Rock Invitational hosted by Beloit Memorial.

Sauk Prairie wrestlers heating up

It was the perfect setting for one of the Sauk Prairie wrestling team’s best performances of the season. The host Eagles celebrated ‘Youth Night’ and ‘Take Down the House Night’ with a convincing 51-25 victory over Beaver Dam/Wayland Academy in a Badger North Conference dual last Thursday night.
