As a returning three-time all-conference selection, much was expected of Sauk Prairie senior forward Evan Carlson this season. At the other end of the spectrum, junior midfielder Joe Baumgardt was looking to score his first varsity goal and find his niche on a team, which had conference championship aspirations.

Sauk Prairie High School participated in a Badger Conference Sportsmanship Summit held at Oregon High School on Oct. 30. Over the past two years, the Badger Conference has been working to define what sportsmanship means within its conference.

With time winding down on its season, Sauk Prairie’s girls swimming team is treasuring each moment together in and out of the pool. That included the annual Badger North Conference meet, where the Eagles finished fourth out of eight teams last Saturday.

The Wisconsin Heights/Barneveld boys soccer team saw its run at state come to end against a tough Lake Mills team last Wednesday. The L-Cats notched a 2-1 win in a WIAA Division 4 sectional semifinal played on a cold, snowy night.

It was a season to remember with many accomplished goals and a lot of camaraderie shared on and off the field. But for Sauk Prairie’s boys soccer team, it was one that came to an end on a frigid and snowy night.

Christian Patzka set his goal 12 months ago. He never wavered, and he most certainly delivered. Patzka, a standout cross country runner at Wisconsin Heights/Barneveld, finished fifth at the state meet in 2018. And as Patzka headed home from the race held at The Ridges Golf Course in Wisconsin Rapids, he had just one target in 2019.

STOUGHTON — After the final whistle had blown, many of the Sauk Prairie seniors remained on the field. There were some smiles, some tears, and a few pictures taken with friends who had ventured onto the field.

They’ve been at the front of the pack all season long. They seemingly have jet fuel in their veins. And the competition has often been in the rearview mirror for Wisconsin Heights/Barneveld cross country standouts Christian Patzka and Samantha Herrling.

Two down, two to go. That’s how the Wisconsin Heights/Barneveld boys soccer team looks at things. The Vanguards, trying to qualify for the state tournament for the first time in school history, won a WIAA Division 4 regional championship last week.

MADISON — It has been a remarkable four-year run for the seniors on Sauk Prairie’s boys cross country team.
