River Valley was fortunate to get one game in on the softball diamond before this week, a thrilling 11-10 comeback win over Columbus, but games vs.

River Valley didn’t get to play on March 31 at Columbus, their originally scheduled game last Thursday with Sauk-Prairie had already been moved to late May but Coach Matt Bakkum’s Blackhawks baseball team finally was able to kick off the campaign in 2026 on the home field Monday this week against Fennimore.

Reedsburg couldn’t get in their season opener last Thursday at Columbus on the soccer pitch, due to inclement weather, so the Beaver girls now set their sights on a home match Tuesday this week vs. Platteville with road trips slated for Friday and Saturday vs. Richland Center and La Crosse Logan, respectively.

Mother Nature was not kind to the Beaver softball program last week as the conference opener vs. Edgewood was not played Tuesday and another league game at Stoughton Thursday and a non-conference home tilt Friday vs. River Valley both were wiped out due to heavy rain. The Stoughton game will be made up on April 24.

The golf season for the Reedsburg Beaver boys took an upward swing a year ago and that trend could continue in 2026. Coach Mark Johnson’s squad showed improvement last year, placing fifth in Badger Small, with team scores of 330 or better five times in various meets which was a big step up from previous seasons.

A few of the area’s top boys prep track and field athletes competed at the WTFA Invite Saturday at UW-Whitewater, where only competitors that met a certain standard in their event, were allowed to compete.

Reedsburg was able to play their season opener on the baseball diamond last Tuesday as scheduled despite some rain earlier in the day and it was a good season opener for the Reedsburg nine, posting a 3-0 shutout win over Beaver Dam in non-conference action at Nishan Park.

Weston was hopeful of opening the high school baseball season last week on Thursday against the North Crawford Trojans, but that game was postponed due to inclement weather and will be played this week on Tuesday in Caz.

It was a wet and cold start to the River Valley Blackhawks softball season last Thursday as Columbus paid a visit for a non-conference season opener. R-V trailed 10-6 going to the last of the seventh but stormed back with an incredible rally, scoring five runs after two outs for a stunning 11-10 season opening victory.

After a second-place finish in the Ridge and Valley Conference last spring, the Weston Silver Eagle baseball program has high hopes for the 2026 season, which is slated to begin this week on Thursday vs. North Crawford.
