A 6,000-vote lead built in the northwest parts of Dane County carried Democratic Wisconsin Senate District candidate Sarah Keyeski to victory last week.
Keyeski broke even with her opponent, Republican Joan Ballweg, in the more populous counties of Sauk and Columbia.

Wisconsin’s whitetails are beginning their mating season. Bucks, all ages, will begin to show little fear and respect of people, automobiles, display windows, and roadway deer crossing signs.
The next Badger Honor Flight will achieve a milestone.
The 5,000th veteran to benefit from the program will be part of the departure, which will take place on Nov. 2. The flight, which will include 87 veterans, will leave from Madison and visit Washington, D.C.

The Wisconsin Division of Motor Vehicles has unveiled a new specialty license plate, which celebrates and raises money for the International Crane Foundation.
The organization is dedicated to saving cranes and ecosystems, as well as watersheds and flyways. It is based out of Baraboo.

Trees have flowers, at least most of the deciduous ones in this area do.
Why, then, when with so many chances and obligations to “talk” about the blooms are they avoided, ignored or forgotten? Just like other flowers many tree flowers develop into fruit. Those that don’t are the ones that have pollen-only producing parts.

Summit Credit Union processed more than eight tons of paper during its ShredFest on Sept. 28.
The event was held in partnership with the Better Business Bureau and Pellitteri Waste Systems.

Forums will give public chance to learn about finalists
The Madison College Board of Trustees has selected three final candidates to succeed President Jack Daniels III, who will retire in January after 11 years with the college.
The finalists are Carlos Cortez, Muddassir Siddiqi and Tia Robinson-Cooper.
