Eagles pick Kornisch to lead girls’ soccer program

The Sauk Prairie School Board approved the hiring of Drew Kornish as the new girls varsity soccer coach on Monday night. Kornish also serves as the Sauk Prairie boys’ soccer coach. The Eagles finished 18-3-1 in his debut season last fall, which included a 6-0-1 mark and first-place finish in the Badger North Conference along with a regional championship.  “I’m feeling honored to be chosen to oversee the girls program at Sauk Prairie,” said Kornish, who previously served as the boys head soccer coach at Madison West for two years.  Kornish succeeds former head coach Mike Rauls, who led the Eagles to a 20-2-2 record last season and recently resigned. Sauk Prairie also finished second in the Badger North Conference and won its first regional championship since 2011. The Eagles lost to eventual WIAA Division 2 state champion Oregon 1-0 in the sectional finals. Kornish said he is eager to get started coaching the girls’ program.  “They have continued to build upon recent success over the last few seasons, and I don’t forecast that success to plateau at any point either,” he said. “The team is well-balanced with some phenomenal senior leadership and loads of talent.” Kornish led Madison West to a 24-7-6 overall record, a WIAA state tournament berth in 2017 and a top-10 ranking in Division 1 for 10 consecutive weeks in 2018. Prior to coaching at West, Kornish served as Madison East girls soccer head coach and as an assistant for the East boys soccer team.
