Two Eagles named all-conference

Sauk Prairie senior forward Trevor Spray and junior forward Brandt Wilson enjoyed terrific years on the hardwood. And both were recently recognized for their strong seasons. The 6-foot-7 Spray was named second-team all-Badger North Conference. The 6-foot-7 Wilson received honorable mention recognition. “I’m happy, I think that’s what we deserved,” Sauk Prairie coach Sean McGann. “I thought Trevor might have a shot for first team, but that’s the way it worked out. I thought Brandt might make it on the second team but he got a lot of votes for honorable mention, which was good.” Spray, a two-year starter, led the Eagles in virtually every category including scoring (14.2 points per game), rebounding (9.6), assists (2.6), blocks (2.2) and steals (1.8).  After making an impact primarily on offense as a junior, when he averaged 11.9 points per game, Spray doubled his rebounding total and became a force on the defensive end of the court this season. “What we will miss most about him is that he covers up most of what we do poorly, like rebounding and getting deflections on defense, and he could score inside,” McGann said of Spray. “That will be a huge piece we will be missing.” Spray made 16 three-pointers, shot 44% from the field and 63% at the free throw line. He also recorded 10 double-doubles during the season.  Spray scored a career-high 27 points against Mount Horeb on Dec. 17 and grabbed a career-best 17 rebounds in a 49-46 victory over Reedsburg in double overtime on Feb. 7. “He had some monster games where he was the best player on the floor for either team at times,” McGann said. “Teams respected him most because he usually guarded the other team’s best player. That was a credit to his length and his ability.” Wilson, a two-year starter, earned honorable mention honors after leading the Eagles with 30 three-pointers made. Wilson was second in scoring (12.0), rebounding (6.6) and assists (2.0) and also shot 31.3% from 3-point range (30 of 96). A full-time starter all season after cracking the lineup late in his sophomore season, Wilson recorded four double-doubles with recorded highs of 24 points against Reedsburg on Feb. 7 and 12 rebounds against Portage on Feb. 27. “He was real consistent. There were only four games he scored in single digits,” McGann said of Wilson. “He was a pretty solid player for us. His shot struggled at the end of the year for us, but that is something he’s going to work on over the summer.” Reedsburg’s Will Fuhrmann, a 6-foot guard, was named the Badger North Conference Player of the year. Fuhrmann was joined on the first team by Beaver Dam junior Nate Abel, Waunakee junior Caden Nelson, DeForest senior Trey Schroeder and Mount Horeb senior Owen Ziegler. Fuhrmann, Abel, Nelson and Schroeder were all unanimous first-team selections. Joining Spray on the second team were Mount Horeb junior Torin Hannah, Waunakee sophomore Andrew Keller, DeForest sophomore Max Weisbrod and Waunakee junior Jaxson Zibell.
