Swimmers win

Sauk Prairie’s girls swimming and diving team notched a thrilling 89-81 win over Baraboo on Sept. 8. The Eagles won six of 11 events and used their depth to prevail. “Really good meet,” Sauk Prairie coach Melani Guentherman said. “Baraboo swam really well and the meet came down to the final four events. I was happy with how well our girls competed, not giving up and racing hard until the end.”   Junior Kassandra Miller had an outstanding meet for the Eagles, winning the 200- and 500-yard freestyles. Sophomore Riley Talmage was second in the 200 and senior Lauryn Drager was third, while Talmage was also third in the 500. Senior Cora Dunnum won the 100-yard freestyle, while junior Ashley Pape was third, and freshman Savannah Acker won the 100 yard backstroke. The Eagles also won a pair of relays. Sauk Prairie’s quartet of junior Amelia Hunter, junior Ashley Pape, Miller and Dunnum teamed up to win the 200-yard freestyle relay. And the Eagles’ foursome of Miller, Drager, Pape and Acker won the 400-yard freestyle relay. The Eagles’ 200-yard medley relay team of Acker, Hunter, Talmage and Dunnum was second, while their quartet of sophomore Carly Coy, junior Trinity Doerre, senior Grace Orr and junior Emily VandeHey was third. Acker was second in the 200-yard IM, while Dunnum and Pape were second and third, respectively, in the 50-yard freestyle. Hunter and Orr were second and third in the 100-yard butterfly, while Doerre was third in the 100-yard breaststroke.
