Field of dreams

The new turf field at Sauk Prairie High School is nearing completion. The field is one piece of a $65 million referendum that was passed earlier this year and includes an outdoor athletic complex that will cost approximately $7.8 million. The field itself, which includes a shock pad beneath the turf to help increase the safety rating, cost $1.2 million.  Football, soccer, lacrosse and the marching band are the teams/groups that will be the main users of the field. The physical education department will also be able to utilize the turf field, while baseball and softball teams could also use the field for practices. “It is an exciting time for our community,” Sauk Prairie athletic director Josh Boyer said. “The support that was shown in the April referendum (61% approval) showed the commitment to Sauk Prairie schools and our kids. The stadium is one small piece of the entire referendum, but having a facility like this will be able to serve our athletic teams, music department, physical education department, graduation and other community events so well.   “Our climate and amount of use on our fields lead to over-use of our fields, and having a turf field, we will be able to consistently provide a safe and consistent field to play and perform on. I know I am biased, but our field and stadium is tremendous and I believe it will only enhance the pride our community has in our athletics, arts and schools.”
