Three Heights girls named all-league

Wisconsin Heights’ girls basketball team recently had three players named all-Southern Capitol Conference. Senior guard Ashlee Adler was named first-team all-conference. Senior post Miranda Keith and senior wing/post Kelsi Handel were both named honorable-mention all-conference. Adler, a four-year varsity player, averaged 9.8 points and 6.3 rebounds per game in conference games only. Adler also averaged 3.0 steals, 2.8 assists and shot 77% from the free throw line. Adler scored in double figures six times, had a season-high seven steals against Cambridge and six assists against Belleville. “Ashlee was a captain and was the focus of some teams to know where she was on the floor,” Heights coach Bill Sullivan said. “She played all guard spots, as well as some post for us. She looked to get others involved in the game and was a quality floor leader.” Keith led the Vanguards with 6.4 rebounds per game and chipped in 7.9 points per contest. Keith also shot 43.5% from the field and 61.3% from the free throw line. Keith had a pair of memorable games against Belleville, scoring 20 and 18 points in those contests. “Miranda played post and really improved her mid-range shooting,” Sullivan said. “She was a great leader during games and in practice. She communicated very well. Handel was another captain who led the Vanguards’ balanced scoring attack with 9.9 points per game. Handel also averaged 5.2 rebounds, 1.3 assists, 1.0 steals and shot 73.2% from the free throw line. Handel had a season-high 15 points against New Glarus and had a double-double (13 points, 13 rebounds) against Waterloo. “Kelsi was a captain and very versatile both as a post and a wing,” Sullivan said. “She was a quality player that led by example. She wasn’t a flashy player, but gets it done. She’s a quality individual that others look up to.” • Hauge steps down: Wisconsin Heights assistant coach Janelle Hauge has stepped down after 20 years with the program. Hauge coached the freshmen team for seven years, then has volunteered at the JV and varsity level the last 13 seasons. Hauge worked under five different head coaches and has seen several highs and lows. Hauge has been involved in an undefeated season, a winless season, a conference championship, four regional titles, a sectional final appearance and has helped coach three 1,000-point scorers. “Coach Hauge is a knowledgable, dedicated and respected coach,” the Heights coaching staff said. “Her impact on the Lady Vanguards of the past and future extends well beyond the walls of this gymnasium. “Recently, she took a family vacation and was breaking down game film and sending information back. “It is with much appreciation from former players, current players, former coaches, current coaches, parents and the Heights community to Coach Hauge for her commitment and countless hours — most of those being a volunteer.”
