Reedsburg Public Library hosts Author Spotlight series
“So many books, so little time to read” is the old adage, but it might also encompass, “so many authors, so little time to discover them!” Reedsburg Public Library comes to the rescue with its new Author Spotlight series, held once a month during the summer, in the library’s Community Room. The first event is on Monday, June 27, at 6 p.m., with the second and third sessions scheduled for July 25 and Aug. 29. No registration or fee is required to attend.
Each session will feature three authors, with the writers given 20 minutes each to introduce themselves and their work and answer questions. At the end of the session, the writers may display, sell and autograph their works. The first event will feature local authors Tim Fox, McKenzie Osborne, and co-authors, Lisa Nelson and Abbie Lorene.
Tim Fox, a resident of southwest Wisconsin, taught school for 17 years before becoming a writer and personal fitness trainer. A husband and father of three kids, Fox writes for an upper elementary or young adult audience. In his first book,” Journeys: An Ice Age Adventure,” 12-year-old Mark Jamison and his brother embark on an exploration of the Baraboo Hills only to be transported back in time to Wisconsin’s ice age past. A sequel to the book, “Journeys: An Ice Age Rescue,” was published in 2019. “A Place for You,” a fictional account of 12-year-old Tracy’s relationship with a wild leopard, was published in 2017, and is partially based on true events.
McKenzie Osborne, who recently finished sixth grade in the Reedsburg School District, published a book this spring entitled, “While the Lights Are Out.” The children’s book, completely written and illustrated by Osborne, is a mystery surrounding the theft of treasures from the Felis Cutus Museum, which cat detective Barney must solve. The mystery may have been inspired by the author’s 11 cats!
Authors Lisa Nelson and Abbie Lorene have both contributed to the new book “My Walk, My Way: Women Who Changed their Lives One Step at a Time,” published in December of 2021. The book, compiled by Laura Hulleman and Angela Witczak, shares the varied journeys of 11 women, many of them local, as they move toward self-acceptance, empowerment and contentment in their lives. Nelson and Lorene specifically speak of their struggles related to body image and adoption issues.
Join us on June 27 to discover these authors and learn more about their books, their writing, and the publication process. For any questions about this or any other library program, call the library at 608-768-READ (7323) or email info@reedsburglibrary.org.
