Featured pets: Donatello, King, Penny, Meow Mix
The Sauk County Humane Society has unveiled its featured pets, with comments from shelter staff. They are as follows.
Donatello is a handsome 2-year-old Beagle mix who came to SCHS as a stray and is ready to put his nose to work finding a family of his own. At just 26 pounds, Donatello is a friendly, affectionate little guy who loves being around people. True to his Beagle roots, walks are one of his favorite things, especially when he gets plenty of time to sniff and investigate along the way. Give him an interesting scent to follow and he’ll happily turn an ordinary walk into his own little adventure. Once the exploring is done, he’s more than happy to trade adventure time for belly rubs, snuggles, and a spot next to you on the couch. Donatello gets along with kids, cats, and other dogs, making him a great fit for many families. He’s equal parts curious explorer and lovable cuddlebug, and he’s ready to head home! He is up to date on his vaccinations and will be neutered prior to adoption.
King is a 3-month-old gray tabby who is still getting used to the big world around him. He can be a little timid at first, but time in the socialization room with our volunteers has been helping him come out of his shell and show off more of his personality. King enjoys a little lap time and attention, but at heart, he’s a typical kitten with plenty of playful energy. He loves having time to explore, play, and investigate whatever catches his eye before coming back to check in with his people. Treats are always appreciated and certainly help win him over! King is a happy little boy who just needs a bit of patience while he builds his confidence. With a home of his own and people to grow up with, we think this sweet kitten will continue to blossom. He is up to date on his vaccinations and will be neutered prior to adoption.
Penny is a beautiful 2-year-old pit mix who came to SCHS as a stray and quickly showed us what a sweetheart she is. This 56-pound girl is gentle, affectionate, and loves making new friends. She would make a wonderful companion for kids and is happiest when she’s spending time with her people. Penny has a nice medium energy level, so she’s up for running and playing in the yard, followed by some quality couch time. When she gets really excited, she’ll even show off her adorable little “bunny hops.” She walks wonderfully on a leash and would make a great walking buddy. Penny can be selective about her dog friends and would prefer a home without cats. At just two years old, she’s past the puppy stage but still has plenty of playful years ahead of her. She’s ready to trade shelter life for a family of her own! Penny is up to date on her vaccinations and will be spayed prior to adoption.
Meow Mix is an approximately 1-year-old black and white domestic shorthair who came to the shelter as a stray. Right now, this sweet girl is still figuring out her new surroundings and taking things at her own pace. She can be shy and unsure at first, but underneath those nerves is a calm, gentle cat who just needs a little time to feel safe. Meow Mix is quiet and easygoing, and while she may not be the first cat to demand your attention, she does tolerate playtime and is slowly learning to relax around the people caring for her. We think a patient home where she can settle in without being rushed would help her personality continue to come out. Sometimes the cats who take a little longer to trust you end up forming the sweetest bonds, and Meow Mix deserves someone willing to give her that chance. She is up to date on her vaccinations and will be spayed prior to adoption.
