On the Same Page: RPL Friends Book Sale, Van Orden Mansion tour next week
Headlining Reedsburg Public Library’s schedule next week is the Friends of the Library Fall Book Sale, and the Local History and Genealogy Meet up at the Van Orden Mansion in Baraboo.
As a reminder, the Library will be closed Saturday, Sept. 5, through Monday, Sept. 7, for the Labor Day holiday.
The Friends of the Library Book Sale will run from Thursday, Sept. 10, through Sunday, Sept. 14, during library open hours. Browse hundreds of fiction and non-fiction titles. Items are not priced individually, but may be purchased with a voluntary donation to the Friends of the Reedsburg Public Library. Cash, checks and credit cards will be accepted in payment. Find that undiscovered gem, and support the Friends extra efforts to improve the Library and library services.
If you wish to drop off books for the sale, these will be accepted on Tuesday and Wednesday, Sept. 8 and 9. Books and other materials need to be clean and in good condition.
Unfortunately, we cannot accept encyclopedia sets, textbooks, National Geographic magazines or VHS tapes.
On Wednesday, Sept. 9, RPL’s Local History and Genealogy group will meet at 1 p.m. at the Van Orden Mansion (531 Fourth Ave., Baraboo). Sara Oostdik, curator of the Sauk County Historical Society, will give a behind-the-scenes tour of the mansion, showing the museum’s archival storage areas. There is no registration or fee required to attend this program. There are stairs on the tour.
Just a reminder for Library Card Sign Up Month: All core library services are always free in the state of Wisconsin. A library card can be obtained with photo identification and proof of address, enabling the individual to borrow books, DVDs, sound recordings, and equipment. A Reedsburg card holder also has access to items throughout the seven county South Central Library System. Holds can be placed through LINKcat, and those materials will be delivered to the card holder’s home library.
In recent years, a library card has become the key to borrowing not only physical items, but also digital ones as well. As a resident of the Reedsburg community with a Reedsburg library card you may access the Research Resources listed on the library’s webpage, as well as e-books and audiobooks offered on the Libby app. Research Resources include the digital version of Consumer Reports and the Badgerlink databases, which include newspaper and magazine articles on a variety of subjects.
Libby, the free digital app created by Overdrive, allows local library card holders free access to thousands of digital e-books and audiobooks. Titles on Libby are purchased by the Wisconsin Public Library Consortium and local libraries. Download the Libby App to your device and enter your card number to get started. Last year, Reedsburg cardholders checked out nearly 35,000 e-books, downloadable audio books and digital magazines.
