STANEK COLUMN: Butterfest is yearly reminder of great people

Summer in Reedsburg is a wonderful time to recognize the best in humanity.

We see so many positive parts of this community during Butterfest, in particular.

The parade is always a joy to cover due to the enthusiasm of the participants and crowd.

Letter: Dare to compare

This past week, my wife Janet and I attended the grand opening of the Obama Presidential Center in Chicago. A project nearly 10 years in the making, the 19-acre forum now interconnects the University of Chicago campus with Jackson Park on Lake Michigan.

Clergy Corner June 25 2026

Mom went over to the slow cooker where the meal had been cooking away all day. As the lid was taken off, a shriek filled the air. The slow cooker had been unplugged hours before to make room for Uncle Bob’s famous sweet potato soufflé.

Tears filled Mom’s eyes. “My dinner is ruined!” she cried.

Nature and Society June 25 2026

I love living in green land. Not the world's largest island, but the green land of early summer in Wisconsin. Once again, the blood donors of the River Valley area generously answered the call to help others in need. On June 5th we collected 79 units of blood products. These donations can potentially save the lives of 237 people.

Letter: A lot of ‘stuff’

Kudos to Art Naedig and Dennis Dankerk for their assessment of the present situation and the plight of Democracy under "Sergeant Schultz” and his kabal of criminals and the trolls who follow him. I was going to write a similar letter, but it wasn’t my week to be able to be in the paper. Thank you, Art and Dan.

Letter: You can control your own actions

Art Naebig continues to try to get Dave Gorak to turn against the Trump atrocities. Reasons and facts about Trump do not work for the GOP and most cult members.

They continue to hide the Epstein files and ignore facts.

Letter: Voters should oust Baldwin

It was so satisfying to see Texas voters finally get rid of RINO Sen. John Cornyn who for so many years lacked the courage to honor his oath of office and instead remained a sissy when it comes to enforcement of our immigration laws.
