Gilbert H. Burmester

Gilbert H. Burmester, age 97, of Loganville, passed away August 12, 2026. He was born March 12, 1929 in Loganville, the son of Edward and Verona (Licht) Burmester. 

On February 2, 1961 he was united in marriage to Jean E. McNett in Baraboo. She preceded him in death on May 21, 2020. 

Gilbert worked as a bee farmer from a young boy until his retirement in the 1990’s. His true passion was restoring old trucks like Mack trucks and the original Klondike truck and getting them back on the road. 

He traveled with his wife looking for truck parts and searching for pottery and fabric for his wife. They both loved gardening and working on the lawn. Gilbert also had a love for the knowledge of his hometown. He enjoyed seeing the many changes throughout his life.

He is survived by his stepdaughters: Judy Prince, Sharon (Robert) Bishop and Donna (Lowell) Opperman. He is also survived by many step grandchildren, including Jean Prince who cared for him in his final years, great grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren. He is also survived by many other relatives and friends including Heavy Harold Burdick and Duane Nobbs who routinely came to visit and helped him with restoring and odd jobs around the house. 

Funeral services for Gilbert Burmester will be conducted at 11:30 am on Tuesday, August 18, 2026 at the Farber Funeral Home in Reedsburg with Chaplain Daniel Farber officiating. Visitation will also be at the funeral home on Tuesday at 9:30 until the time of service. Burial will be in St. Peter’s Cemetery in Loganville and luncheon to follow at Loganville’s Fire Department.
