On the Same Page: Annual worm races and more next week at Reedsburg Public Library

In this last week of July, be sure to take advantage of Reedsburg Public Library’s many activities.

Whether they’ve been coming to programs all summer long, or coming for the first time, youth may join for this week’s events which include Truth or Bean for Teens, the Time Travelers Disney session, and the iconic Annual Worm Races.

On Monday, July 27, at 10 a.m., Reedsburg Writers will be finalizing their stories for inclusion in the 2026 collection. The publication will be distributed at the group’s final meeting and publication party on Aug. 10. Later in the day, at 2 p.m., Teen Time participants (ages 11-18) will play Truth or Bean. Tell the Truth or take your chance at tasting a “Bertie Botts Every Flavor Bean” (from the Harry Potter books). Could be delicious or maybe not so much.

On Tuesday, July 28, at 2 p.m., Time Travelers (Grades K-2) discover the history of Disney from its earliest beginnings, and will be making their own Mickey Mouse Club ears.

RPL’s Annual Worm Races will be held during Family Night at 6 p.m. on July 28. A time-honored tradition, the worm races foster friendly competition as each youth picks a worm to race outwardly from the middle of a circular track. After several rounds, prizes will be awarded to the winning worm and its trainer. Racing worms and supplies will be provided and no registration is required.

Prepare for water fun on Thursday, July 30. At 10 a.m. Loganville Little Library participants will experiment with water outside, weather permitting. The same program will be repeated for Discovery Days students (Grades 3-5) at the Library at 2 p.m. Discovery Days does require registration 24 hours in advance.

Reedsburg Public Library’s adult book discussion group will be meeting on Tuesday, July 28, at 10 a.m. and 6 p.m., in person or virtually, to discuss “The Blue Hour” by Paula Hawkins. Hawkins, known for the bestselling page turner, “The Woman in Cabin 10,” has created what Booklist calls “a perfectly formed gothic take that admirers of Daphne du Maurier will admire.” New participants are always welcome. Several copies of the book are available for checkout at the library.

Cake decorating is the topic at the Mingle and Muse session for teens and adults on Wednesday, July 29, at 2 p.m. Tanja Seely, RPL staff member and former bakery employee, will bring her expertise to the table. Learn the fundamentals of cake decorating, including recipes, and techniques for using piping bags and tips. Try your hand at this fun and rewarding craft. No registration is necessary.

Adult and youth reading challenge participants are encouraged to report on their July reading during this last week of the month. The youth prize for July is a book to be chosen from a wide selection of age appropriate titles. August reading logs are available. Four more weeks remain in the reading component of this summer’s library program.
