Doris Marion Alt (née Pronold)

Doris Marion Alt (née Pronold), age 92, passed away peacefully on May 27, 2026, at Waunakee Valley Senior Living after a gradual decline from Alzheimer’s disease. Born on December 7, 1933, in Plain, Wisconsin, Doris was the youngest of ten children born to Anton and Lillian (Hemberger) Pronold. On May 28, 1954, she married Eugene W. Alt at St. Luke’s Catholic Church in Plain. Together, they built a life rooted in hard work and devotion, farming for the first two decades of their marriage. In 1976, they moved to Madison, where Doris began a long career as an Executive Secretary at CUNA Mutual Insurance Company, and Gene worked in the Agronomy Department at the University of Wisconsin. Doris remained dedicated to her work until retiring in 2002 at the age of 69. She and Gene shared 62 years of marriage before his passing in 2016. Doris was a deeply devoted wife, mother, and grandmother whose life was defined by her care for others. A devout Christian, she was an active member of St. Luke’s Catholic Church in Plain and St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church in Madison for many years, living out her faith through quiet service, compassion, and steadfast presence in the lives of others. She loved her family unconditionally and was always present to support and nurture those around her. She also had a special love of music and carried a song with her wherever she went—quick to sing to comfort others, lift spirits, and bring moments of joy in both ordinary and difficult times. This simple, generous expression of care became one of the many ways she made those around her feel seen and loved. She is survived by her five children: Diane (Chuck) Giovannoni of Sanger, California; Dale (Cheryl) Alt of Beaver Dam; Douglas Alt of Middleton; Denise (Michael) Bernhagen of Sun Prairie; and Debbie (Todd) Stormer of Dane. She also leaves behind eleven grandchildren—Melissa, Adriane, Randi, Tyler, Kyle, Nicolas, Alexis, Evan, Anna, Eli, and Cora—seven great-grandchildren—Clayton, Riley, Cade, Nico, Alex, Lila, and Jett with two more on the way—and three great-great-grandchildren. Doris’s final years were marked by extraordinary care and compassion. Her end-of-life journey was supported by more than three years of hospice care, along with exceptional support from the staff at Waunakee Valley Senior Living. She was also cared for deeply by those around her, including a devoted roommate who advocated for her when she could not do so herself. Funeral services will be held on Friday, June 5, 2026 at 11:00 A.M. at the Richardson-Stafford Funeral Home in Spring Green, WI.  Fr. Mike Resop will officiate with burial in the St. Luke’s Catholic Cemetery in Plain, WI. Visitation will be held on Friday, June 5, 2026 from 9:00 A.M. until the time of service at 11:00 A.M.
