Richard “Dick” Gillen

Richard “Dick” Gillen
Richard “Dick” Gillen, a long time resident of Sauk Prairie, WI and Bluffton, SC, passed away peacefully on March 12th, 2026 at the age of 85 in Kingwood, Texas. A funeral and burial service for Dick were held in Texas on March 28th.
You will remember Dick and his wife Joyce Gillen as they operated the Sauk-Prairie Grill from 2016 to 2020. They then became “snow birds”spending summers in WI and winters in SC. Dick was a happy, smart, loving, and kind man, often referred to as a real “gentleman.”
Dick enjoyed walks, fishing, shrimping, boating, his O’Douls, dining out, golfing, and traveling. He was proud to be a retired Marine. Dick and Joyce were blessed to have supportive friends in both WI and SC.
In recent years Dick struggled with Alzheimer’s, which affected his memory but never dimmed his kindness and cheerful demeanor. If your loved one suffers from Alzheimer’s, please seek caregiver support.
Dick was loved by many, and will be deeply missed. He is survived by his wife Joyce, a brother and sister, his two sons and daughter, three step-children, daughters-in-law and sons-in-law, and 14 grandchildren whom he loved and enjoyed.
