Heights student struck in parking lot

[Updated: 1/14/25, 1 p.m.] [Updated: 1/14/25, 12:30 p.m.] A 14-year-old Wisconsin Heights student was struck by a vehicle in the school parking lot around 3:30 p.m. Monday, January 13th, according to emails sent out to families in the District. Initial details were scarce “out of respect for the privacy of the student and their family,” according to District Administrator Dr. Michelle McGrath. Tuesday at noon a further update was sent out with the important information that “the student’s condition is stable and they are at home and recovering.” “We want to extend our continued support to the family as they navigate through this difficult situation,” wrote McGrath.  Emergency responders were called at 3:36 p.m. including MedFlight.  “Since yesterday,” McGrath wrote, “we have taken several steps to ensure the safety and well-being of everyone in our school community. This morning, our leadership team met with staff to provide additional support and resources for those who may be affected by the trauma of the incident. We have also made resources available to help students, staff, and families as they process this experience.” She also noted “to enhance safety and address any concerns, we have increased our presence in both the parking lots and on school grounds during morning drop-off and at the end of the school day. Additionally, we met with local law enforcement to review the situation and discuss how we can work together to prevent future incidents and further improve safety measures.” McGrath announced the “launching [of] new safety protocols in our parking lots to better protect our students and ensure a safer environment. We encourage your collaboration and support as we implement these changes. Your involvement and attentiveness will be crucial in keeping our community safe as we work together toward these goals. Please look for an email regarding these changes by the end of the week.” The email concluded, “we remain committed to the well-being of our students and staff, and we appreciate the outpouring of support and understanding of our entire community as we work through this difficult time.
