Wisconsin Heights mill rate drops compared to last year

The Wisconsin Heights School District had their Annual Meeting on October 28th, where they reviewed the budget and the gathered electors approved the levy. Taxes this year, including the April operating referendum, will come to a $9.43 mill rate, a drop of 7.5 percent over last year’s $10.21. The mill rate hasn’t dropped below $10 since 2011 when the district’s equalized value was nearly half of what it is now, at $1.2 billion. The $11.3 million budget for the district is 2.8 percent higher than last year. In a letter to district residents, District Administrator Dr. Michelle McGrath said: “We are charged with ensuring that each of our students receives an education that prepares them for success--whatever that success may look like. Success may come in the form of post-secondary education, military service, employment, or another path as unique as each of our students.” She continued:   “That journey to success begins in our 4K program with our youngest learners. Our elementary school is working toward a common goal of sustaining professional learning communities that focus on high impact, culturally responsive instructional strategies.”   McGrath said:   “At our secondary schools, leaders and educators are focused on enhancing student achievement ensuring that all students can access our instructional programs and resources necessary for their success. We utilize high-quality curriculum and assessment tools. We also provide all students with information about post-secondary education, careers, access to resources, skills for success and character education.”   Finally, she touched on school safety:   “School safety, both physical and emotional safety, continue to remain priorities for our school district and a cornerstone for our success. Our students are able to achieve at high levels because of strong leadership, talented and dedicated faculty and staff, unique programs, strong community partnerships, and a loyal, committed, and supportive community.”
