Get in on the action at Reedsburg Public Library next week, July 18 to 23. There are activities and events for all ages from preschool to adult, that run the gamut from dramatic presentations, to art, DIY, writing fiction and reading to canines!

Firstly, on Monday, July 18, the Read with Me Dog, Babe, will visit the Story Room of the library from 2 to 4 p.m., and is eager to hear children read! Sign up that day starting at 1 p.m. in the library’s Children’s Area or by calling Miss Jess to reserve your ten minute session.

On Tuesday, July 19, Bright Star Theater will present “The Little Mermaid” at 9 a.m. in City Park. Hilarious actors Lenny and Mabel provide an inspiring version of Hans Christian Anderson’s classic story. The adaptation explores the difficulty of being yourself in “unfamiliar waters.” The show is recommended for pre-K students through adults. In case of inclement weather, the production will be held in the Library’s Community Room. No registration is required.

Reedsburg Public Library’s own Preschool Players Production of “The Rainbow Fish” will be held on Thursday, July 21, at 6:30 p.m. Registration is still open for children ages 4 and 5, with rehearsals taking place on July 19 and 20 from 4 to 4:45 p.m. Children who sign up will enjoy practicing their lines as well as helping with costumes and sets on the Tuesday and Wednesday sessions.

The Home Depot Workshop comes to Discovery Days at the library on Thursday July 21 at 2 p.m. Home Depot representatives will be on hand to supervise the creation of sail boats. The program is designed for children entering kindergarten through fifth grades. There is no fee for this program but register by July 20 so sufficient materials may be provided.

On Friday, July 22, educator and artist Mary Tooley returns to the Reedsburg Public Library to present Art in a Suitcase for Teen Time at 1 p.m. in the Community Room. Students entering Grades 5 through 12 are welcome to join in to learn metal tooling. Mary says “everyone, experienced and not so experienced, can find success with this interesting media!” Advance registration is required for this program.

Finally, adults get in on the action on Saturday, July 23, for a Flash Fiction writing session presented by Madison-area writer Andy Millman from 10 a.m. to noon in the Community Room. Participants will learn how to write a flash fiction piece, which tells a short story in less than 1,000 words. The presentation will also be available via Zoom for those who wish to attend remotely. Google “Andy Millman flash fiction” to find examples of his delightful stories.
