Extension unveils winter Coffee Chats series

The University of Wisconsin-Madison Division of Extension will roll out Coffee Chats on Nov. 9.

The first session is scheduled at 10 a.m. virtually, and future chats will be held the second Monday of the month from 10 to 11 a.m. Chats will take place through March 21.

Jerry Apps will kick off the first chat with a presentation on the history of women in agriculture. It will cover the pioneer days and how women’s roles have changed over time.

Apps is a former county extension agent who works as a rural historian, writer and speaker.

Coffee Chats are part of the Heart of the Farm-Women in Agriculture program.

Heart of the Farm addresses the needs of farming women by educating them on various topics, connecting them with resources and creating support networks.

Future topics will include self-care tips during the holiday season, tax preparation issues and concerns, how to read and understand milk checks, and value added enterprises and farm diversification.
