The Badger Lightning area high school girls hockey team finally got its first look at the Rock County Fury team out of Beloit in a Badger Conference game after a couple of previous postponements. The visiting Lightning led 2-0 but could not hang on in a 4-2 loss.
The Weston Silver Eagle girls basketball team earned a much-needed win on Friday night, going on the road to take care of business against DeSoto, 50-35.
Weston experienced some rough sledding in its Ridge and Valley Conference boys basketball game on Friday night at DeSoto where the Pirates won a lopsided decision, 78-44.
Weston couldn’t find success in the win/loss column this past week in girls basketball action as the Silver Eagles dropped a non-conference decision at Wonewoc-Center and a league game at LaFarge.
Reedsburg Beaver girls basketball standout Sydney Cherney shoots a free throw in game action earlier this season. Cherney broke her own school record with 50 points on Saturday in a 67-54 win over Monona Grove, making 20 of 25 free throw attempts along the way. Cherney and Chad Mazur on the boys side are the only Beaver basketball players ever to score 50 points in a game. Cherney is second in the state in scoring for girls basketball at 30.9 points per game and her 50-point outing was the second highest point total for a girls basketball player in the state this year.
