Letter: It pays to be a politician

Senator Ron Johnson has doubled his wealth since being in office, certainly not from his senatorial salary, but largely through benefiting from the tax break that he demanded be part of Trump’s 2017 tax bill.

Letter: Feel-good society goes too far

We live in a feel-good society. Feel-good comes with consequences, at times depriving others their right to feel good moments.

Drunk drivers, drug users, smokers, gamblers, speeders and others throw caution to the winds of consequence causing victims and tons collateral damage each year.

Nature and Society: It's the most wonderful time of the year in Sauk County

Mother Nature was very good to me on Mother’s Day, bless her. With her strong south winds, she is blowing lots of birds our way, including many species of warblers. This will be the prime week to spot spring migrants.

STANEK COLUMN: Follow teacher’s advice and keep eye on your own work

Years ago, I worked with a man who bristled whenever someone looked over his shoulder at his computer screen. It was practically a phobia for him, and we all knew to stand to the side when collaborating with him. He was such a nice man and worked way too hard so none of us had issues giving him some space.

STANEK COLUMN: One, two, three, four, I declare a turf war

Those little dashes of color have us all thinking about warmer, greener months.

Even if you’re not a gardener, you can appreciate the daffodils and tulips that fight to live this time of year.

Some people are blessed with natural gardening instinct. The rest of us do our best and wonder what went wrong.

Letter: The best government money can buy

The most critical aspect in political “balance of power” is that no one political party should get elitist position garnering carte blanche for governing. That is exactly what we are facing this November. There are those with non-relenting love for their party no matter how many fleas their favorite dog has, dogma remains dogmatic.
