Nature and Society: Reminiscing with old friends

Oh, I love these women! I just spent three days with "the girls," my six friends from our days as social workers in Chicago. After 53 years, we still cannot agree on where to go to dinner, or whether to order out or to just stay in and finish off Karen's artichoke dip.

Letter: Why is nothing being done about border crisis?

We've just learned that a record number of illegal aliens so far this year have died attempting to enter this country either by drowning or crossing our deserts. The number of illegals intercepted at our border in the same period has exceeded two million; add to this number a half million "gotaways," many of whom will be here forever.

Nature and Society: The final garden struggle before winter

Yes, I know fall is pretty. But I've been around long enough to know what comes after the fall! So I am hanging on to these last golden summer days for all I'm worth! My end of summer chore list would stretch around the house four times.

Letter: Children need Christian leaders, heroes

In the Sept. 15th paper, I read with heightened interest the (opinion pieces) of three Democrats, one Republican politician, and one Pastor. Although the three Democrats are from different cities, they must have written their letters from the same table.

Letter: An accountant is the right one for the job

I recently read in a letter to the editor that Sen. Marklein was wrong for the job because he’s an accountant and wants to ensure accountability of expenditures. I would like to partly agree with that letter to the editor.

STANEK COLUMN: When the nose doesn’t know

Like so many of you who’ve had a certain illness, I’ve lost my sense of smell. She took a month-long cruise to the Caribbean and decided to stay there, I’m guessing until the fun money runs out. She should have waited until January.

Letter: Thank you for supporting triathlon

On Saturday, September 10th, as you may recall, it was raining from 1 PM onward. Reedsburg got two inches that day. The rainfall was constant and the temp was chilly. On that day, the first annual Blake’s Tinman Triathlon was held from 11 AM through 1 PM.
