Nature and Society: Sick of campaigning

I am already tired of the 2024 election! The candidates will puff and posture and spout sound bites, and we will learn nothing from it all. Far too many of their slogans will be designed to turn us against each other. They will try to scare us about immigrants and criminals and gay people and taxes.

Letter: Energy bill doesn’t help us

I recently received an email from Rep. Van Orden on how he is supposedly working to lower gas prices.

What he neglected to say, however, is how negatively this act will affect us.

KYLR: Legal avenues in dealing with bad neighbors

Ralph E. Johnson. (Submitted photo)

Abraham Lincoln is undoubtedly the best-known lawyer in American history. His quote about neighbor disputes was to discourage litigation. “Persuade your neighbors to compromise whenever you can,” Lincoln once said. “Point out to them how the nominal winner is often a real loser – in fees, expenses, and waste of time.”

STANEK COLUMN: Roll out the barrel

Everyone’s been talking about the road construction on Reedsburg’s west side.

How can you not? The intersection next to Kwik Trip is one of the busiest in town. When the orange barrels come out, people notice.

Letter: Mind where you vacation

In February 2023, we experienced a 15-day cruise through the Panama Canal. At one stop, there was a bus ride to a village square where locals were playing music and dancing. We were told that if we needed to use the restroom, we could use the one at the church (which had a funeral going on) and the market across the street.

Nature and Society: Blessed rain

Oh, the blessing of rain! Thanks to Saint Isadore, the patron of farmers and crops, if he had anything to do with it. The rain eased a tension I have carried since early May when this terrible drought began. I just hate to see plants and trees struggling in the heat and the dry winds.
