I love living in green land. Not the world's largest island, but the green land of early summer in Wisconsin. There are so many shades of green around us: The bright yellow green of young willows, the deeper yellow green of new maples and walnuts, the dark greens of evergreens, the true greens of catalpas and apple trees. 

Across the U.S., rural grocery store owners are doing far more than stocking shelves. Running a grocery in a small town is more complex, and more essential, than it often appears.

When a rural grocery store struggles, the impact affects the entire community.

Here’s five lessons we learned from working alongside grocery stores:

I was happy to see yet another Wisconsin judge has ruled the Enbridge Line 5 Relocation project can move forward.

Once again, the blood donors of the River Valley area generously answered the call to help others in need. On June 5^th we collected 79 units of blood products. These donations can potentially save the lives of 237 people.

The police body cam footage was finally released in the death of Henry Nowak. Like so many of you, I watched it.

As a human being, I shook my head. As a supporter of good police, I winced.

It doesn't sound difficult, but it is. I am referring to counting bats. I am a bat reporter for the Wisconsin Bat program and I am supposed to count them pre-volency or before the little bats are born, and again later, post-volency. This past weekend was the pre-volency count and I went out too early.
