STANEK COLUMN: Ignoring the rearview mirror

I celebrated a milestone birthday this week. I won’t divulge the number but I will say this much: I’ve been a “ma’am” for awhile now. Ladies, you all the moment when you stop being a “miss.”

Nature and Society: Need some hope

April is the sweetest month. April comes to tell us our waiting is over, the darkness has broken and the earth is reborning. Every day the messages come: a crane's call, the song of the meadowlark, the vultures circling, the willows yellowing, the maples blooming. It is a season of hope and promise in a weary world.

STANEK COLUMN: County Board needs to be more transparent on Health Care Center

Like a lot of Reedsburg residents, I’m becoming increasingly wary of what’s happening with the Sauk County Health Care Center. Last week’s closed session did the Board no favors in the eyes of the Reedsburg community.

Nature and Society: Disappointed in Sauk County Board

I am disappointed in our County Board. I went to the special meeting last Thursday where the Board was considering selling the Sauk County Health Care Center to a private company. Letter: Duren brings local representation

On April 2, we are voting for Blake Duren for Judge. We know and respect Blake and are confident that he will be a fair, honest, ethical and very capable Judge. After graduating from Reedsburg High School and UW Madison, Blake became a lawyer with an office in Reedsburg. His qualifications for Judge are unmatched in this race.

Letter: The unfunny joke

In every Donald Trump “speech”, a listener can hear many lies. In 2016, he said, “I will build a wall and Mexico will pay for it.” He never built a wall and Mexico did not pay for what he never built.

Letter: Thome has valuable experience

I had the privilege of working at a law firm in Sauk County for nearly 20 years and had the pleasure of working with many local attorneys, one of which was Nancy Thome.  Nancy was always very knowledgeable and professional to work with (even if we represented client’s “on opposing sides”!).  I know she has been a respected member of the Sauk Cou
