Students in grades 5–8 from St. Luke School recently participated in the Model Bridge Contest held as part of the Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) Expo at the University of Wisconsin–Platteville.
The competition challenges students to design and construct a two-dimensional bridge using only balsa wood supplied by UW–Platteville and in accordance with specific design requirements. Once completed, the bridges are tested to determine their load-carrying capacity by adding weight until the structure reaches its breaking point.
St. Luke School had an outstanding showing at this year’s competition. In addition to having three students place in their division, St. Luke earned recognition as the middle school with the highest number of top-10 finishers.
Individual award winners included Brayden Eberle, who placed second; Camden Herfel, who earned fifth place and received special recognition for building the lightest bridge capable of supporting 200 pounds; and Bransyn Eberle, who placed tenth.
Congratulations to these talented students on their impressive accomplishments and for representing St. Luke School so well at this prestigious STEM competition.
