On the same page: RPL prepares fall programming for adults

To finish summer programming, next week an informal Babies and Me Play will be held on Wednesday, August 27, at 10 a.m. in the Library’s Community Room. Infants and their siblings and caregivers are invited to join this impromptu play session. Theater Thursday for families on Aug. 28 at 2 p.m. will feature the 2017 Disney/Pixar film about a young boy who explores music and imagination to find his way home.
Meanwhile, adult services staff are busy making plans for fall programs.
All are invited to next week’s discussion of “The Wager: A Tale of Shipwreck, Mutiny and Murder,” by David Grann at 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. If you are gearing up for activities in the fall, the discussion titles through December have been chosen, and September’s selection is available for pickup at the library. The title for Sept. 23 is “Beautiful Ugly” by Alice Feeney. Titles for October through December include “Happiness Falls” by Angie Kim, “Isola” by Allegra Goodman and “The Book of Charlie” by David Von Drehle. The group meets on the fourth Tuesday of each month and the discussion may be attended at either 10 a.m. or 6 p.m., in-person or via Zoom.
The Library’s Memoir Writing group will continue to meet on the second Tuesday of each month at 6 p.m., in-person at the library, or via Zoom. This monthly group is open to all adults who are interested in recording their memories. At the end of each meeting, a writing prompt is provided, which group members use to prepare a one-page memoir to share at the next session. Writing is critiqued only at the request of the author. The Library’s Local History and Genealogy Meet Up will continue on the second Wednesday of each month at 1 p.m. and is open to all. A variety of guest speakers and field trips are planned for the next few months. On Sept.10, County Register of Deeds Brent Bailey will visit the library to discuss county records for genealogy, and how to use the online Grantor/Grantee index for land records. In October, local historian Dale Meyer will host us for a tour of the Loganville Museum. In November, a representative of the Max Kade Society for German American Research will present a program (via Zoom) on German immigration to Wisconsin.
The Cookbook Club will continue on select Wednesdays of each month at 6 p.m. in the Library’s Community Room. The topic for Sept. 10 is James Beard award-winning cookbooks. Themes for the remaining three months consecutively are All Things Pie, Martha Stewart and Thanksgiving, and Holiday Baking. Register for these programs on the library’s website.
