Prairie du Sac Utilities donate to Ruth Culver Library’s Free Little Snack Shop

Prairie du Sac Utilities, recently donated $1,000 to the Ruth Culver Community Library’s Free Little Snack Shop. The village utility is a member owner of joint action agency WPPI Energy, which provides funding for community organizations and projects. This donation has significant impact on our ability to continue to provide snacks for all ages and is greatly appreciated. Started in 2023, the Little Free Snack Shop provides access to a variety of ready-to-eat snacks and heat-and-serve meals for all ages. This is something we see toddlers access after story time, students use after school, and in the summer, it serves as a way for some individuals to meet nutrition needs that they’d miss otherwise. We also see use from unhoused individual families and adults experiencing food insecurity. Due to its popularity, it has become tricky to fund at times as we do not include a line item for this in our annual budget, but rather rely on the generosity of others and the Sauk Prairie Area Food Pantry to supplement our needs. In 2024, we gave out a whopping 9,868 items. If you’d like to contribute to the snack cabinet, please contact the library to discuss options including an Amazon wish list. Photo contributed.
