Next week, families can enjoy an end of the summer Theater Thursday, and community members can provide further input into the future of the Reedsburg Public Library. A meeting of the Advisory Task Force for the future library project will be held in the library’s Community Room on Monday, Aug. 18, at 6 p.m. The public is also invited to attend.

On July 31, FEH Design consultants met with members of the public to sketch designs for the future library. Several renderings were created, and that evening the Advisory Task Force and members of the public in attendance selected their top designs. The Advisory Task force will meet again on Aug. 18 at 6 p.m. to review options, preliminary costs and to set priorities for the preferred concept designs. This meeting is open to the public.

Library Director Sue Ann Kucher shared, “The SPARK session was wonderful to watch and participate in. It was wonderful to hear the thoughts, opinions, and input shared by community members throughout the day, and to see those ideas come to life in sketches and conversations with the FEH team.”

Later in the week, while youth service librarians continue to prepare for the fall session, an open playtime for babies, their siblings and caretakers will be held on Wednesday, Aug. 20, at 10 a.m. A Theater Thursday will be held in the library’s Community Room at 2 p.m. on Aug. 21. Families can enjoy a movie about Harold and his purple crayon. Join us for popcorn, and remember to bring your own comfy blanket.

The Library’s August Book discussion will not be held until Tuesday, Aug. 26, but there is still time to read the riveting nonfiction book for the month. Copies of the “Wager: A Tale of Shipwreck, Mutiny, and Murder” by David Grann are available for checkout at the library. The book, by the author of “Killers of the Flower Moon” follows the adventures of the crew of the Wager, which foundered off the coast of Patagonia in 1741. Not all returned to England, but those that did had conflicting accounts of the tragedy. The book discussion can be attended online or in person on Aug. 26 at 10 a.m. or 6 p.m.

Just because Youth Services programming is in between sessions, there is no reason to quit reading. Visit the library in these last few weeks of summer! Now is a great time to sign your kids up for a library card, or sign up to keep track of your reading on the ReadSquared app. All that is needed for a new library card is a current photo ID and proof of current address! Teachers are reminded that the teacher card must be renewed each year with a new application signed by the principal. The teacher card keeps classroom checkouts separate from their own personal reading.

For questions about the third ATF session, or any library service or program, call the library at 608-768-READ (7323) or email info@reedsburglibrary.org.
