On the Same Page: Science Heroes, Teen Lock-In, and reading challenge completion next week at RPL

Next week features a Science Heroes program, a Teen Lock-In, and the final chance to report on reading in Reedsburg Public Library’s summer reading challenges.
Science Heroes is an educational organization that brings entertaining and informational programs to schools and libraries around the country. On Tuesday, Aug. 12, at 6 p.m., the group will present a program for Family Night at the Lion’s Building in Nishan Park. The program features Color Our World experiments with chemical reactions, laws of motion, air pressure and more. Audience participation is emphasized. There is no registration or fee required to attend this program.
On Friday, Aug. 15, a Teen Lock- In will be held from 5 to 9 p.m. at the Reedsburg Public Library. Youth Grades Six and up can experience the library after hours with Heather and Miss Stephanie. Participants will be divided into two groups to create an escape room, and then try to solve each other’s creations. A movie, featuring Minecraft, and pizza will also be served. Students must be registered in advance and must be committed to staying for the duration of the program.
Babies up to age 2, their siblings and caregivers, are invited to an open session of Babies and Me Play at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 13. Toys will be provided in the library’s Community Room for free play and for participants to get to know each other. Baby and Me Play will continue for the next two weeks before school starts.
Adults will cap off their summer with a Grown Up Monday Fun Day Ice Cream Social on Aug. 11 at 2 p.m. You don’t need to have attended a previous Monday session to come and enjoy camaraderie and ice cream with toppings. On Wednesday, Aug. 13, the Local History and Genealogy group will meet at 1 p.m. at the Robert L. Parkinson Library and Research Center in Baraboo, 415 Lynn St. The Parkinson Library serves as the archives for Circus World Museum. (Note that the library is not on Circus World grounds). Archivist Peter Shrake will give a tour of this behind-the-scenes resource.
Also on Wednesday, Aug. 13, Wisconsin mystery author Sue Berg will give a talk about her Driftless Mystery Series at 5:30 in the library’s Community Room. “Driftless Identity,” her sixth book featuring fictional La Crosse detective Jim Higgins, was published in June. Books will be available to purchase and for author signing.
Saturday, Aug. 16, is the last day of reporting for both the youth and adult summer reading challenges. Be sure to come in to get your reading log stamped, your bingo card checked, and your tickets submitted for the final grand prize drawing of the summer. Grand prize winners will be contacted in the following week.
