It’s not too early to plan your summer reading! Reedsburg Public Library’s Summer Reading Challenges begin for both youth and adults on Saturday, June 1!

Youth and adults have the choice of completing the Summer Reading Challenges either on paper, or on the online Beanstack platform. However you track your reading, the goal for all youth is to read (or be read to by an adult) at least three days a week, and optimally as much as possible! In keeping with the 2024 Summer library theme, Adventure Begins at Your Library, youth categories for reading logs include: Little Explorers (newborn through age 2), Junior Explorers (preschool through grade 4) and Explorers (grades 5 through 12). Paper logs can be picked up at the library, or you may register on Beanstack through the library’s homepage or with the Beanstack Tracker app on your device.

Prize incentives and final reading prizes may vary by age category, but in general, reading prizes will be awarded halfway through each summer month for youth who have read three days a week. A free book will be awarded at the end of each month, and the final prize for finishers will be an envelope packed with coupons for treats and experiences generously donated by local businesses!

Virtual badges as well as real buttons (pins) are offered as prizes for completing special Exploration Challenges in addition to reading. For example, in the Food Explorer Challenge you are asked to try to cook or eat something new! The buttons earned can be collected and displayed on a Summer Reading Lanyard which will be distributed at the beginning of the program. Those who log their Summer Exploration Challenge progress on Beanstack may earn tickets for a grand prize drawing at the end of the summer.

This year Adult Summer Reading Program participants are challenged to read five books over the summer months. Each five books read earns a ticket to enter in a drawing for prize baskets. Additional tickets can be earned by completing a Library Challenge activity which may include exploring resources on the library’s website or setting up a curbside library pickup.

Programming begins the week of June 10. All of your library favorites return including: Lunch Bunch Storytime, Summer Storytime, Babygarten, Reedsburg Writers, Reedsburg Readers, Discovery Days, Teen Time, Family Night and Loganville Little Library. Reedsburg Readers I and II Book Discussion Clubs require registration online or at the library before June 11. Discovery Days require registration online or at the library at least 24 hours before the program. See our brochure for details and a listing of summer special events.
