The holidays are shaping up at Reedsburg Public Library!
Next week, enjoy a Thanksgiving-themed Senior Monday Fun Day and stock up on new book and video titles for your holiday enjoyment.
On Monday, Nov. 16, at 2 p.m., RPL Assistant Library Director Caitlin Opatik will host a Senior Monday Fun Day that will feature a sharing of Thanksgiving memories, as well as Thanksgiving trivia and classic holiday video clips. Opatik remarks that she enjoys the sense of camaraderie fostered by the monthly shared activities. The program is free and will take place in the library’s Community Room.
On Nov. 16 at 4 p.m., RPL’s Multi Age Play Group will meet in the library Community Room to enjoy free-play with Legos. The MAP group allows children of various ages to interact together with the supervision of their parents. Older children may practice empathy and act as mentors for their younger peers, while others enjoy keeping up with “the big kids.” The program offers an experience not available to some families or in most classroom environments. Nov. 18 will be Youth Services Librarian Ms. Jess’s last day in the library, so please stop in to wish her farewell and to enjoy a going-away treat!
When you visit the library, be sure to check out our new selections. The Reedsburg Public Library orders books for adults and youth monthly. New titles for adults can be found just inside the front doors to the left, just past the Wisconsin Writer’s quilt. The collection here contains fiction, genre fiction and non-fiction titles that have been purchased by the library in the past six months. Check here for holiday books from your favorite authors. In the regular stacks, holiday books are marked on the spine with stickers denoting Thanksgiving, Hanukkah and Christmas as well as other holidays.
Check the call number 641.5 and 641.8 for books on cooking and baking, respectively. Over the years, RPL’s cooking collection has grown to over 1,600 titles. Check the call number area 745.5 for some quick craft ideas for gift making or simply enjoying the holiday season. Be sure to ask at the desk for assistance in finding books or placing them on hold.
Speaking of checkouts, Reedsburg Public Library has just reached 10 million checkouts since the library began serving the community in May of 1899. While we don’t know who checked out the 10 millionth item, our reports show that the checkout occurred sometime Thursday morning, Nov. 2. Be sure to join us for our 125 year celebration in the spring of 2024!
