Obituary: Ethel A. “Evie” Schommer

Ethel A. “Evie” Schommer, age 99 of Reedsburg, passed away on Tuesday, January 4, 2022 at the Reedsburg Area Senior Life Center with her family by her side. She was born on January 29, 1922, in Abbotsford, Wisconsin, the daughter of Frank and Magdelina (Elfert) Wiese. Evie was united in marriage to Wendalin F. Schommer on October 1, 1940. This marriage was blessed with two children. He preceded her in death on May 5, 2009.

Evie was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Reedsburg. She was a loving mom and grandma and a great cook. Some of her favorite free time was spent with her family at the cottage in Wautoma. She was also an avid Packer and Brewers fan.

She was also preceded in death by her seven brothers and sisters.

Evie is survived by her sons, Gerald (Margaret) Schommer of Athens, Dennis (Linda) Schommer of LaValle; grandchildren, Brian (Dianne) Schommer of Appleton, Jennifer (Jamie) Kaatz of Dorchester, Tara (Ryan) Subera of Sun Prairie, Brooks Schommer (fiancé, Jill) of Reedsburg; great-grandchildren, Alex (Hannah) Schommer, Nicholas and Michael Schommer, Rachel and Aaron Kaatz, Jordan and Olivia Roberts, Treyton and Rhianna Schommer, Gavin Subera and Kartyr Schommer; nieces, nephews along with other relatives and friends.

Special thank you to Dr. Shear and the staff of the Reedsburg Area Senior Life Center for the wonderful care given to Evie, and to her neighbors at Ridgeview Heights Independent Living.

A private family Memorial Mass will be held at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Reedsburg, with Father Patrick Wendler officiating. Burial will be made in Wisconsin Memorial Park in Brookfield.

The Farber Funeral Home is assisting the family with the arrangements.
