An area woman is running to be part of the Dairy Farmers of Wisconsin Board of Directors.

Sharon Laubscher of Wonewoc is running to represent District 20, which includes Sauk and Richland counties. She is seeking re-election. At the moment, she also serves on the board’s audit and channel management committees.

Dairy farmers in all districts have until May 22 to vote for their preferred candidates.

All candidates meet the board’s eligibility standards. To run, candidates must be an active dairy producer or represent an affected producer, sell milk in commercial channels and live within their respective districts. Candidates must also have five signatures from other active dairy producers in their district.

DATCP has already distributed mail-in ballots to dairy producers who reside in the eight affected districts, but producers who do not receive a ballot by May 10 may request one by contacting Debbie Gegare at 608-224-5116 or debbie.gegare@Wisconsin.gov. Completed ballots should be signed and sent to WI DATCP, Marketing Order Program, P.O. Box 8911, Madison, WI  53708-8911, and postmarked on or before May 22. Unsigned ballots will not be counted.

Election results will be announced at the end of May and elected producers will begin their three-year terms July 1.

The board has 25 districts across Wisconsin, but not all board seats are up for election this year. This year, eight districts are up for election.
