Obituary: Todd Alan Nachtigal

Todd Alan Nachtigal, age 51, of Reedsburg, passed away on February 16, 2021 surrounded by family. He was born on August 11, 1969 in Hillsboro, Vernon County, Wisconsin, the son of Arthur and Ramona (Mittlesteadt) Nachtigal.

Todd was the seventh child born to Art and Ramona. He was loved immeasurably by his family, including six siblings; Richard (Janice) Nachtigal; James ( Gail Duren) Nachtigal, of Reedsburg; Cindy (John) Nelson, of Jupiter, FL; Wendy (Joe) Gates, of LaValle; Tim Nachtigal, of Reedsburg; and Tom (Sherri) Nachtigal, of Winona, MN, in addition to nieces, nephews, cousins and family friends.

Todd was involved with and loved the Sauk County Special Olympics and competed in several sports including bowling, track and bocce ball through which he earned many ribbons and trophies throughout the years.

While having Down’s syndrome put Todd at a disadvantage in many things in life, being happy, loving and charismatic were not among them. He was the life of the party everywhere he went and befriended anyone willing to take a moment to get to know him. He had a keen eye for pretty girls and even informed several of them that he was going to marry them through the years.

Todd spent many years working at Pizza Hut in Reedsburg and later the VARC workshop. He was constantly being caught at his workplace with pockets full of quarters to buy his friends sodas from the vending machines.

Todd was passionate about the Green Bay Packers, especially #4, Brett Favre. He loved traveling and experiencing new adventures. During his down time, he loved watching TV shows like The Dukes of Hazard, All Star Wrestling and M*A*S*H while eating potato chips and drinking Mt. Dew. He also loved listening to music, especially Elvis songs, most of the time singing along for everyone to hear.  He will be deeply missed by so many.

Todd was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Richard.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Special Olympics of Sauk County or to Casa de Oakes, Reedsburg.  The family would like to offer sincere thanks for the kindness shown to Todd by Casa de Oakes.

Due to COVID-19 and safety concerns, a memorial will be planned for a later date to be determined.

The Farber Funeral Home, Reedsburg, is assisting the family.
